Matt Austin

Matt Austin is the Occupational Safety Manager at Mayo Clinic. Since joining Mayo in 2013, Matt provides strategic and operational support to Mayo’s integrated clinical practice, education and research initiatives. Prior to joining Mayo, he held various technical and managerial roles in the technology sector, leading local, national and global initiatives. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and holds a BS in Industrial Hygiene – Environmental Toxicology from Clarkson University; a MSPH in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from UNC-Chapel Hill and an MS in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Matt is physically located in Rochester, Minnesota.

 

Jason Barry

Senior Consultant, BSI EHS Services and Solutions

Jason Barry

Jason Barry, a Senior Consultant under BSI’s RAPID Injury Prevention program, is an accomplished healthcare EH&S professional who specializes in reducing staff injuries through the combined application of systems safety and technology solutions. Having worked with leading healthcare organizations across the US, he has successfully helped to drive down costs and improve efficiencies at client sites.

Prior to BSI, Jason worked as the Injury Prevention Program Manager at UCLA Health before moving on to the Center of Excellence position for Healthcare Risk & Safety under the UC Office of the President’s enterprise risk management initiative.

 

Matthew L. Berkheiser, DrPH, CIH, CSP

Executive Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Department, MD Anderson Cancer Center

Matthew Berkheiser

Dr. Matthew Berkheiser is the Executive Director of the Environmental Health and Safety department at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Berkheiser holds a doctorate in Occupational & Environmental Health from the University Of Texas School Of Public Health. He has over 25 years of experience in the environmental health and safety field. His career started when he was first employed by MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Safety Technician. He has also held positions at Kelsey-Seybold’s Occupational Health Program at Johnson Space Center, Sam Houston State University and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

His primary customers and collaborators at MD Anderson include the Facilities staff, Employee Health, Nursing and Infection Control. He spends a majority of his time mentoring his staff on developing their technical and leadership skills. His most recent accomplishment was becoming a Core Clarity, Inc. and Gallup Coach that helps participants explore their StrengthsFinder talents.

 

Danial Bravard

Senior Consultant and Head of Healthcare Services, BSI EHS Services and Solutions

Danial Bravard

Prior to joining BSI in 2017, Mr. Bravard served as the Associate Vice President – Risk Management and Safety Workplace Safety Officer for Memorial Hermann Health System, where he led a department staff that provides services and support to over 40,000 employees, credentialed clinicians, volunteers, contractors and students in over 200+ locations. He has also served as Director of Safety in the Petrochemical and Refinery Division of G4S, Vice President Risk Control and Regulatory Affairs at Loomis, and Vice President Environment, Health and Safety at ABM Industries.

 

Byron I. Callies, CEM, CRMP

Byron Callies

Byron Callies completed his undergraduate degree at The George Washington University and his graduate degree from TUI University. He holds the IAEM Certified Emergency Manager, DRI International Certified Risk Management Professional and FEMA Master Exercise Practitioner credentials. Currently, Byron serves as Mayo Clinic’s Director for Clinical & Business Continuity Management where he provides strategic guidance and operational expertise for the organization’s continuity program. Kelly Classic

Kelly Classic is a health physicist at Mayo Clinic Rochester where she’s been practicing for 34 years and currently serves as the Radiation Safety Manager. She has a Masters degree in Health Physics from Purdue University and a Masters degree in Organizational Development from Concordia University.

Elise Condie

Elise Condie began her career as a Physical Therapist after graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from LaTrobe University in Melbourne, Australia. She is an experienced practitioner in ICUs, medical/surgical units, geriatrics and oncology. She developed a passion for injury prevention and completed a Masters in Occupational Health and Safety at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. She has worked in a range of industries as a safety professional, including the Australia Post, stevedoring, high voltage construction and maintenance, water and wastewater, underground mining, and transport. Elise brings this broad experience and a passion for healthcare to help the healthcare industry achieve best practice in EHS management.

 

Lucas Digman, CSP

Safety Coordinator, Mayo Clinic

Lucas Digman

Lucas Digman is a Safety Coordinator at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and holds the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), a BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin – Superior, and an MS in Risk Control from the University of Wisconsin – Stout. Lucas began his career at Mayo Clinic in 2003 as a clinical laboratory technologist before transitioning to a safety role in 2008. As a Safety Coordinator, he focuses on identifying and facilitating system based improvements and has experience as a consultant and resource to clinical and research laboratories, environmental services, and respiratory therapy. Lucas has an interest in technology as it applies to safety management and lead the development and deployment of an electronic supervisor safety self-assessment.

 

Siobhán Dugan, Ph.D., MPH

Siobhán Dugan

Siobhán Dugan is an Employee Health and Safety Specialist with Allina Health in Minneapolis, MN. Siobhán has overseen the development of and currently leads a system-wide safe patient handling and movement program for a healthcare organization of 27,000 employees. She is an author of the Minnesota Hospitals Association’s Road Map to a Comprehensive Safe Patient Handling Program and has presented regionally and nationally on the topic. Her interests include increasing employee engagement in safety and connecting Safe Patient Handling & Mobility to the organization’s mission.

 

Darcy Erickson

Darcy Erickson

Darcy Erickson is a Therapy Supervisor of Inpatient Rehabilitation and the Spinal Cord Injury therapy program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She received her bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the College of Saint Catherine in 2001, and her master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Saint Mary’s University in Minneapolis in 2012. She is ATP certified and an Instructor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and at the OT program for the University of Minnesota. She has held various leadership and management positions in both non-profit and for-profit organizations.

 

Fred Massoomi, Pharm.D., FASHP

Director, Hospital and Health-system Pharmacy Services, Visante, Inc.

Fred Massoomi

Firouzan ‘Fred’ Massoomi, Pharm.D., FASHP, current position is Senior Director of Hospital and Health-systems with Visante, Inc. Dr. Massoomi has a passion for the practice of pharmacy as a means of informing and safeguarding the many communities served. This sense of service has guided his work as a researcher, educator, and crusader for proper sterile compounding, proper non-sterile compounding, hazardous drug management and the safe disposal of pharmaceutical wastes. Prior to his position with Visante, Inc. Dr. Massoomi was Pharmacy Operations Coordinator with the Department of Pharmacy at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. In this position, he had responsibilities for oversight of pharmacy practices at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Methodist Women’s Hospital, Methodist Home Infusion, Methodist Easterbrook Cancer Center and Midwest Surgical Hospital. He oversaw the updating the pharmacy departments to current practice standards as defined by American Society of Heath-System Pharmacists, (USP) <795>, <797> and <800>. Dr. Massoomi has lectured internationally on implementation strategies for compliance with USP <797> and USP <800>, proper hazardous drug management as outlined in the Centers for Disease Control’s National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Alert, and, proper disposal of pharmaceutical drug waste. Dr. Massoomi served as the Nebraska Pharmacists Association president in 2014.

 

Jeff Nesbitt, CIH

Supervisor, Industrial Hygiene, Mayo Clinic

Jeff Nesbitt

Jeff Nesbitt is the Industrial Hygiene Supervisor at Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota and an Assistant Professor in Preventive Medicine in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Jeff received an MS in Risk Control and a BS in Occupational Safety and Environmental Health. Jeff is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional. He is actively involved in various groups within AIHA and ASSE.

 

Peter C. Raynor, Ph.D.

Associate Professor; Director, Industrial Hygiene Program, University of Minnesota, School of Public Health

Peter Raynor

Dr. Peter C. Raynor, an Associate Professor in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Sciences & Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research and teaching interests revolve around the assessment and control of workplace exposures, especially those involving airborne particles. Dr. Raynor directs the University of Minnesota Industrial Hygiene Program and the Midwest Emerging Technologies Public Health and Safety Training Program.

 

Sandy Skees

Principal Consultant, Northern California Regional Director, BSI EHS Services and Solutions

Sandy Skees

Sandy Skees is Regional Director at BSI. She leads the sustainability practice as well as managing the growth of BSI’s Northern California region, delivering a range of consulting services and program implementation ranging from sustainability and corporate social responsibility, worker safety, business continuity planning, and EHS services.

Prior to BSI, Sandy served as Managing Director for Fenton Communications West Coast, accelerating progress through social change communications. Her work with corporations, nonprofits, and NGOs was focused in consumer products, recycling and waste, renewable energy, supply chain and LGBT issues. She brings over 25 years’ experience in leading professional service firms, corporate and communications strategy. Skees previously ran her own firm, Communications4Good, where she served early stage and Fortune 500 companies. While a partner at Porter Novelli, she managed the global HP account team in 20 cities/10 countries around the world and created programs, processes and predictive integration points as a framework for ensuring global implementation of cutting edge communications techniques.

She sits on numerous boards including Sustainable Brands, Mini Mermaid Running Club, 100 Women Who Care, was appointed to a four year team on the Santa Cruz County’s Human Services Commission, and is a seasoned speaker on brand, messaging and sustainability strategy.

 

Mike Squillace, CSP

Mike Squillace is currently Safety and Industrial Hygiene Coordinator for Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Mike has a Masters of Science in Industrial Hygiene and a Certified Safety Professional with over 30 years of experience in Mining, Food Processing, Warehousing, Electronic Manufacturing, Contract Manufacturing and Healthcare.

Kathy Thompson has been with 3M for 22 years in various industrial hygiene roles, including chemical regulatory and technical service for disinfectant products before her current position as Technical Training and Education Specialist with the 3M Personal Safety Division. She spent 10 years working in healthcare prior to 3M in clinical microbiology and infection control/safety roles. Kathy has an MPH in Environmental Health from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Science in Chemistry from Lehigh University. She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Medical Technologist.

 

Breca Tschida, CPE

Ergonomics Program Coordinator, Minnesota OSHA’s Workplace Safety Consultation

Breca Tschida

Breca Tschida is the Ergonomics Program Coordinator for MNOSHA’s Workplace Safety Consultation. She holds a Master’s of Public Health in Industrial Hygiene with a focus on Ergonomics. Breca is a Certified Professional Ergonomist with 20 years of experience in occupational safety and health and a former health compliance officer.

Mary Vorndran is a Senior Safety Coordinator at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Mary is a Certified Safety Professional and has worked as an occupational safety and health professional for 37 years, with the last 19 years in the healthcare environment. Lisa Webb is currently the RN/Safe Patient Handling Coordinator for the Northwest Wisconsin region of the Mayo Clinic Health System. The Northwest Wisconsin region consists of a 207 bed hospital located in Eau Claire Wisconsin, four Critical Access Hospitals, 12 Ambulatory clinics and a Home Health and Hospice Department. Lisa has been in her role for 5 years and is a 24 year employee of Mayo Clinic. She has been accountable for the implementation and support of the Safe Patient Handling program since its start in 2012.

 

Sandra M. Woolley, Ph.D., CPE

Ergonomist, Mayo Clinic

Sandra Woolley

Sandra holds a M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from SUNY Buffalo, a Master’s degree in Biomechanics/Work Physiology from the University of Waterloo, and an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Biology from the University of Western Ontario. She is currently working as an Ergonomist for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and has previously worked in academia and industry. She is a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE). She has been on the organizing committee for the Applied Ergonomics Conference for the last 17 years and was the conference chair from 2014-2016. She has also served with the Board of Examiners of the BCPE writing the scope of practice until 2020 and writing exam questions.
